Kay is a native of Wyoming and lives on a small ranch at the foot of the Wind River Mountains.  Her love of the outdoors, all animals (large and small, wild or domestic) and the cowboy way of life as well as her ranch upbringing and later as a wife and mother inspires many paintings.  She enjoys painting on location (plain air) as well as in her studio.  Kay works mostly in oils and occassionally in pastel.

She is a past president of the Riverton Artist Guild and the Wyoming Artists Association.  In 2006, she was chosen Grand Wyoming Artist of the Year by her peers of the Wyoming Artists Association.  She is a juried Associate Member of Oil Painters of America.

Kay participates in many national art shows yearly winning numerous awards.  Her paintings are in private collections throughout the United States as well as Japan and Switzerland.  Her paintings have been chosen to hang in the Congressional office of Wyoming Representative Barbara Cubin in Washington, D.C.; selected for the "Top 40 Exhibit" Wyoming Game and Fish Conservation Stamp Competition; twice been juried into the final Top 20 in the Wyoming Ducks Unlimited Regional Art Show in Jackson, Wyoming; in 2007, she was chosen as one of the 40 artists juried to participate in the Nicolaysen Art Museum Banner Project.
